Important Announcement

It is with deep regret and sadness that the Directors of Moh-Doh (International) Limited announce withdrawal of the entire range of MohDoh products from the market on Thursday 6th May 2021. This is not a product recall – all MohDoh supplied to customers and users is of high quality and safe to use.

For several months now we have been given conflicting advice by the Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards Service (TSC) with MohDoh variously being classified by them as a cosmetic, a toy and a medicinal product.  We have always regarded MohDoh as a fun product (toy) to be enjoyed by people of all ages from 36 months upwards.  The dough has been tested to EN71 to demonstrate its non-toxicity and compliance with the Toy Safety Act 2011.

We have done everything, and more, asked of us by TSC and recently put a lot of time and money into changing all the pot base labels to ensure full compliance with toy safety labelling standards.  We also completely revamped the original MohDoh website (dating back many years before we became the owners of the MohDoh brand) to remove anything we felt could, however remotely, be construed to be, or imply, a medicinal claim.

In light of TSC’s concerns we also lodged a request with the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to review the MohDoh labels and website as a possible “borderline medicine”.  We are happy to work with MHRA, if they have any concerns, to ensure our marketing materials and labels do not cross the boundaries into medicinal claims and MohDoh can continue to be regarded as a toy.

In spite of all our efforts to satisfy TSC’s demands, they were not prepared to wait for a ruling from the MHRA.  On Monday 26th April 2021 we received a letter from TSC threatening Moh-Doh (International) Limited and its Directors with prosecution under various regulations associated with their allegations that we make medicinal claims for MohDoh, which could result in large fines, or even imprisonment.  The Directors of Moh-Doh (International) Limited feel we are not able to defend ourselves against these allegations unless and until we have a definitive ruling from the MHRA regarding the regulatory status of MohDoh.   As the MHRA are, understandably, distracted by Covid we do not expect a quick ruling from them in the near future, so we therefore feel we have no choice but to close down the business.  In short, there is no fun left in manufacturing what should be a fun product.

MohDoh is play dough infused with selected, certified organic, essential oils.  It is made from high purity raw materials in the UK.  MohDoh has been demonstrated to be safe and posing minimal risk to the consumer when used for its intended purpose – play dough.  We have never knowingly or intentionally made any medical claims for MohDoh.  It is not a medicine, as stated on our website until this notice was posted.  MohDoh should not be used as an alternative to medical treatment.  We have had no complaints from users of MohDoh that they feel misled by the products or their marketing.  As far as we know, TSC and MHRA have also had no complaints.

We apologise to all our loyal customers and the many users of MohDoh.  Thank you for your support over the last eight years.
